4th Generation IUD
Globally, 85 million unintended pregnancies occur per year, and each day, 830 women die from preventable causes related to pregnancy and childbirth. There is an urgent need to develop better solutions to overcome the dual challenges of contraception and prevention against sexually transmitted infections. In recent years, research on multipurpose prevention technologies (MPTs) has been promoted to solve multiple reproductive health needs with a single product.
We propose a novel non-hormonal contraceptive based on the traditional knowledge of Ayurveda. It is an intrauterine device that is a novel electro-spun technology-based fiber with an active pharmaceutical agent. The development of non-hormonal contraceptives can address multiple reproductive health needs with a single product. The study will investigate the efficacy and biocompatibility of this device. This method of contraception will be acceptable, effective, non-steroidal, and reversible without any side effects.
